FOMO hitting kinda hard…
Can I tell you a secret?
I’ve not seen most “Classic” movies. The “must watch” film, the highly acclaimed, the Oscar nominated pictures. The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Pulp Fiction, etc. were all movies that somehow escaped my radar. The movies you would see out-of-context clips and references all over the place, I just never understood.
I don’t think there’s a reason that I haven’t seen these movies? Maybe a lack of interest for some, sure, but otherwise, I just think I’ve slipped through the cracks of what’s considered classic movie education.
Until now.
Recently I’ve felt a shift. No idea what caused it, but I have gained in interest in watching more movies, specifically these classic films I’ve heard so much about.
So I made a list. I’m still making this list. Honestly, I’m not sure if this list will ever be finished. There’s like an infinite amount of movies out there. The point is, I’ve started to compile different films that I’ve heard about, that I’ve been recommended, ones that have influenced pop culture. And I plan to watch at least a good chunk of them.
So far, I’ve watched maybe six or seven movies. I started with the original Hellraiser, then moved on to Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. From there I’ve watched Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Alien 1 & 2, Pulp Fiction and Poltergeist. Only a tiny dent in what’s quickly becoming an unending list.
Many of these film thus far I’ve enjoyed immensely! Hellraiser was great (Pinhead cosplay loading?), both Alien and Dracula were visually stunning in completely opposite ways and Poltergeist was a fun time. I was more surprised by Pulp Fiction, which I expected to really like, but found that while it was a good movie, it was definitely not one of my favorites by Tarantino.

Overall, this has been a cool journey to start and I’ve found myself excited about movies and having more interesting conversations with the people around me about them. I’ve also been receiving A TON of recommendations that will ensure I have plenty of material to keep me busy for the foreseeable future. There are barely any limitations or perimeters for my watchlist so I’ve been learning about titles from all eras, countries and backgrounds.
I’ve also been jumping around. I made a list, but I’m really watching them as a title calls out to me. Sometimes, I’ll watch a movie not on the list, but that had randomly popped into my mind ( Interview With the Vampire most recently). It’s all very touch and go, fluid and unhurried. I’m trying to enjoy this as much as possible, I don’t wanna force it in anyway. Even if I don’t watcha movie for weeks, that’s fine.
So that brings us to now! Tonight, I’ll be watching Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the first time in the theater seat. I only vaguely know what to expect, I know Leatherface is the big bad in this one, but not much else. Soooo… Let’s see how this goes.
And hey! If you have any recs for me to add, drop them in a comment so I can add it to my list and if you follow me on my socials, you’ll probably see when/if I actually watch it as well and see my thoughts about it.
Until next time. -Sundai
